The first task is to clean the leather, this alone makes a huge difference, the repair area is then lightly abraded with a scourer dampened with ‘leather prep’ solution. The kit comes with everything you need to effect repairs to rips, holes, cigarette burns or scuffs and is very simple to use, as with any task of this type, the more time you take over it, the better the end result will be. Those of you with more patience than I have, will cer- tainly get better results than mine! Alcohol Cleaner: This is used after the Leather Prep and is designed to remove any leftover residue from the Prep. In all circumstances, we recommended fully cleaning the entire item of leather that you want to repair. Not only is this good practice, but if the leather is dirty, it can cause a freshly repaired area to stand out. Clean the leather using our Leather Cleaner. I would also like to endorse the recommendation of Millennium Mercedes in Bedford (01234 218424) which was made by Dr Robert Oakley in the May issue of the Gazette. Before you apply leather colourants to the surface, start with a small patch, preferably in an out of sight space. You should also apply light coats at first to ensure you are happy with the process. Leather dyes can create strong colours, transforming leather items, so don't rush the process. If you follow detailed instructions, you'll hopefully see amazing results.

Yes, it is safe to use a leather dye kit. However, it's essential to follow the instructions that come with your particular kit, as some dyes may require different application methods. When a leather item, such as a seat is worn, it looks past its best. Rather than removing the seat from your home, or seats from your car, you can restore them. Leather dyes, in paint or spray form, restore much-loved items, and also protect them from future harm. The Colourant Kit should be used when changing the colour of your leather, the Re-Colouring Balm should only be used to restore colour to leather and not to change it.As beautiful and luxurious as leather goods are, even nature needs a helping hand. Over time, leather can begin to look faded and worn. Staining can ruin its appearance, or the colour loses its vibrancy. The Leather Colourant has been developed to colour any type of leather. It is however more suited for a non-absorbent leather (pigmented or top-coat) as it recreates the original surface coatings. Whereas the Re-Colouring Balm is predominantly used on absorbent leathers as it needs to penetrate the leather to work to its full ability.

Q. Will this affect the quality of the repair compared to applying Leather Colourant and Leather Finish?

A. No, this is the benefit of using Leather Repair Paint. The colour seals itself whilst it dries. The only time you would need to apply Leather Finish would be to match the shine of the leather. Yes, our Leather Colourants can be used on all leather types, and all articles of leather, such as: furniture, car interiors, handbags, clothing and many more. For leather that is also damaged, you may also want to consider purchasing our Repair Add-On with the Leather Colourant Kit. How long does it last?

Yes, however before applying the Colourant the leather will need to be degreased. For this we recommend using our Leather Degreaser. This will remove any excess oils from within the leather, enabling the Leather Colourant to adhere to the leather.Next up is the leather primer. This is essentially an adhesion promoter designed to allow you to build more layers on top of it to create the best colour match for the look you're trying to achieve. Perhaps you want a light colour, a new colour altogether, or you want to match the old look of your furniture before it grew faded. Most importantly is their ability to resist scuffs and scratches. The Leather Colourants are extremely hard wearing and will not scratch unless very heavily forced. Applications Here's a basic idea of what's involved, with a few tips on what to avoid. Don't Use Cheap Leather Dyes No matter what colour you're looking for, you will find it in a leather dye. And if you can't find the exact colour you're looking for, you can always mix different dyes to create your unique shade. Most people are familiar with leather dyes and a leather colourant kit, but the terminology behind a leather re colouring balm might be new. This is a cream you apply to scratched or faded leather items, including sofas and all manner of furniture. Leather re colouring balm is easy to apply to leather items

Before applying our Leather Colourant, there may be necessary procedures and products to use to achieve a perfect and natural finish. Leather Finish should be applied afterwards for a strong and hard-wearing coating. Colour Options & Colour Matching I have a specific colour I require for my project, can you provide this with the Leather Colourant Kit? A wide range of pre-mixed standard colours to choose from; best suited if you are changing the colour of leather. NORSOL Leather Colourant can be used on many leather product, ranging from furniture and automotive interiors to clothes, shoes and handbags. How to apply

I'm unsure what size Leather Colourant Kit I require for my project, is there a general guide or 'rule of thumb'? A small cloth patch is carefully positioned behind the tear. 2. The Leather Glue is then used to fix the patch in place 3. Imperfections are ‘filled’ with ‘Heavy Filler’ and coloured. The colour is first ‘dabbed’ on with a sponge, working into creases (below). These splits had repaired previously with poor results The splits have been repaired with patches glued behind the damage, filled with ‘Repair Compound’, and recoloured (below). There is a wide range of coloured options to consider with leather re-colouring balm, and it is easy to use, all you need is a cloth. You should buff the leather recoloring balm into the coat, furniture or leather surface until it is mixed so well, you cannot see the colour transfer.
