Man spürt als Leser, wie der Krieg noch die ganzen Nebenfiguren sowie die Landschaften beeinflusst hat. Because judging from all the reviews I saw, she might actually be able to become one of my fave authors. The whole concept of their television series and having to travel to different locations for filming is so exciting; opening up numerous directions for this series to go in. This said I really liked Cassidy as a character and I adored and loved her close friendship with Jacob.

She’s desperate to understand this ability, but the ghosts of Edinburgh are more powerful than any she’s encountered before, and she quickly finds herself losing control. Of course unlike her other works this has a lot of light hearted moments and it's a pretty easy book to fly through as it doesn't have those secret and hidden hard truths that her older books tend to have.Ever since Cass almost drowned (okay, she did drown, but she doesn't like to think about it), she can pull back the Veil that separates the living from the dead . Excellent book that draws from a piece of history that should be better known, the siege of Leningrad. I may have exaggerated a lot here but what I am trying to say is that this is a Middle Grade book and we should approach it as one. Revol Rossel - once a virtuoso violinist with a glittering future - is now a humble state militia cop, forced to investigate desperate crimes in this desperate era.

I once went on a ghost tour when I visited Edinburgh and I could see the places described in the book very clearly. Since this was my first Victoria Schwab book I can finally say that I’m intrigued by her writing style. Don't get me wrong—I loved this book, but how come ghost books are always about ghosts from the 1800’s or something? Along the way Rossel has to deal with interference from the MGB (the Soviet Union's secret police) and Stalin's henchman Lavrentiy Beria.Whilst the end was ok, it was still flooded with the music references that just started to become a bit boring as it was continual.

I would reccomend if ofc too younger readers and for Ve schwab fans who want too read more of her different works , just dont go in expecting something like her adult books. Usually, if a plot isn’t good, I’m pretty much fine with it, as long as I like the characters and their development was good. This debut novel is gripping, becomes a real page turner and is orchestrated to a satisfyingly blood curdling finale. There was a little bit of foreboding at the end of the book so we’ll see what’s going to happen next. I like historical fiction and this cold war stuff but the reason for the killings was as I said silly. The descriptions of the intense torture and deaths of and by the musicians of Leningrad are genuinely stomach turning.

Started like Gorky Park then when you realise the plot and the reason I thought it all a bit far fetched and silly. Instead of summer at the beach, Cassidy’s parents have dragged her on a trip to Edinburgh to film their new TV show. Obviously, I am not the intended audience for this, so a room full of Middle Graders may have a completely different opinion than me. As the family begins touring some of the most haunted sites, Cassidy begins to feel that the pull on the veil is stronger than ever and the ghosts in Scotland are much more sinister than Cassidy has ever encountered. I really do think that this is a “it’s me, not you” scenario, so I’m really confident that other people will like it more! With neither the charm of Cruz Smith or his compelling prose it's hard to feel much, if anything, for the disabled protagonist. Cassidy can enter the '' veil '' a place where souls of people who died stay if they havent moved on yet.
