About this deal

A forbidden fruit, a romance filled with angst, and the struggle of battling your inner thoughts of the forbidden and desires, making your craving enhance more and more for Pike and Jordan... disfruté este libro mucho más que la primera vez que lo leí. sentí el ritmo completamente necesario dada la trama. daddy pike, tkm You’ve always watched me, haven’t you? Always wanted to have your fun with me.” I falter, knowing what she says is true. I’ve wanted her since the first time I saw her. “It’s okay,” she whispers. “I always knew, and I always liked it. Keep watching me, Mr. Lawson.”

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas | Goodreads

I found The Birthday Girl to be a taut, entertaining read, and while Ellie wasn’t the most likable of characters, I came to understand her as light was shed on her early years. This book was the ultimate explosion of a perfect situation turned terribly wrong. I am a huge fan of Melissa's work and this book did not disappoint. I loved the she focused on how great of a life Ellie had living in Palm Springs, with a loving husband, a ten year old daughter, twin boys and a college aged step=daughter living happily. She has her fortieth birthday party but can't enjoy it due to her 16th birthday with it being such a disaster and her life came crumbling down all in one night. With past experiences coming to haunt her, dark secrets are uncovered and her life is starting to fall apart. This is a prime example that nothing in life is perfect and no matter what you have and how you are, there will always be bumps in the road, but it's how you handle them that makes all the difference. Interesting! I don’t mind a bit of angst here and there – haha. But not too much! Bummer that things weren’t resolved in a satisfactory way. Twisted and busy, The Birthday Girl is a long awaited release from the popular Melissa de la Cruz. While it was a miss for me, I can see other readers devouring this suspenseful mystery. This book was received as an ARC from PENGUIN GROUP Dutton in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The commentaries on human behavior were on point sometimes. I do think the shoplifting logic Mish and Leo had of being entitled to steal because they didn’t have opportunities for things other girls had is prevalent with poor teens. I also have read about celebrities wearing fake engagement rings because they know everyone assumes they’re real anyway (80).I always came across of this grumpy, broody older men who happen to be so control freak, yes I am not likely to be indifferent towards them.

Final thoughts....this book was too long, it dragged, I didn't connect with either of the characters, and I probably wont remember this book in a few days. I was bored reading this and only finished it because of the many people who loved it. On the night of her party, allllll of Ellie’s secrets come bubbling up. Everyone in her life shows up to the party, whether they were invited or not. It all falls apart for Ellie that night. At some point I felt it was dragging out as I had a feeling I read this typical story line before, (good girl from trashy caravan park, drunk father and stepmother, striptease job offers, slutty sister and so on).If I was Jordan...okay Let's pretend I am Jordan so I would be wishing he was 10 years younger or even my age but I am not saying this because his age bothers me, no it absolutely doesn’t!!!
