I will dedicate this to Izabel. The fierce teenage ghost with guts hanging out of her torso. The best babysitter ever. Dear Brian Vaughan, you think you’re killing everyone until only your darlings remain — but … but … but … she was MY darling. With an adult’s beautiful mind, his writing is also not nearly as smart or progressive or feminist as I used to think it was, which I’m basing partially on how every woman calls another woman a slutty fat cunt at some point, and partially on which fan letters he chooses to just publish in their unedited entirety at the end of each issue. Like…you know you don’t HAVE to give an eight-paragraph platform to every person who hated your trans character, right? …right?? On July 25, 2018, issue #54 was published, ending the first half of the series' run on a major cliffhanger. The series then went on an extended hiatus, during which the first 54 issues would be published in a single volume called Saga: Compendium One. In April 2019 Vaughan told Entertainment Weekly that the second half of the series would also last 54 issues, comprising what he called "a planned 108-issue epic." [6] The dialogue feels very natural and candid, the character designs are unique and the art in general is just very pleasing to the eye. A very positive start! Welcome to Sextillion, bitchesss! Robertson, Adi (April 9, 2013). "Apple bans 'Y: The Last Man' creator's new comic from Comixology over sexual content: The distinction between app and art breaks down". The Verge . Exciting how this series takes on topics like parenthood, war, trauma, sex positivity, interracial marriage, mourning and drugs with a big dose of humor The story is a little bit Romeo and Juliet, a little bit Game of Thrones, and it's all set in space. It's full of bizarre fantasy creatures, from tiny talking rodents to humanoid television sets, to giant planet devouring infants, and it all fits together seamlessly in this world. I was extremely impressed by the delivery of so much info at such a good pace in this format; I hadn't expected the level of world building I'd find in a series of novels in a graphic novel series, simply because so much of the storytelling is visual, but Saga absolutely delivers. As the main characters (a couple and their child) travel through space, trying to find a home for their family despite being hunted by monsters, government agencies, and exes, we're gradually introduced to a wider cast and new facets of this vast universe. a b c d Vaughan, Brian K.( w),Staples, Fiona( a)."Chapter Ten" Saga,no.10(February 2013).Image Comics. The book was announced at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International, [4] and was billed as " Star Wars meets A Game of Thrones" in solicitations. [1] Saga represents the first time Vaughan has employed narration in his comics writing, a decision influenced by the whimsical interaction between the text and images in the children's books he reads with his children, and by his desire to try something new that he felt would work well with Saga 's narrator, Hazel. [5] It is also his first series to be published through Image Comics, [18] whom he selected as the series' publisher on the recommendation of the writer Jay Faerber, who cited the creative freedom afforded by that publisher. [15] Vaughan elaborated on his selection of Image thus:

Saga: Compendium One : Vaughan, Brian K, Staples, Fiona Saga: Compendium One : Vaughan, Brian K, Staples, Fiona

This feels like a transitional volume — and I loved it. It fills in the domestic bliss of Marko and Alana on the planet Gardenia… Oh wait. Bills need to be paid, and Alana has to get a job (and gets into drugs) while Marko is a stay-at-home dad who’s feeling more and more estranged from his wife. Drugs and drudgery are straining this family. We follow Hazel growing up, the child of two opposing soldiers who are united by love. In a sense this could be called a kind of Romeo and Juliet in a sort of Star Wars universe, but than much more x-rated. The characters are complex and morally grey, with even the pacifist father of Hazel being haunted by guilt. Irreverently funny and achingly heartbreaking. Insane space opera with breathtaking artwork. The story that focuses of people in the middle of ridiculous senseless war and breaks your heart without thinking twice.a b c Dietsch, T. J. (December 12, 2011). "EXCLUSIVE: Brian K. Saga, Compendium One by Brian K. Vaughan | Goodreads

Την αγαπώ αυτή τη γάτα! a b Hennon, Blake (July 20, 2013). "Comic-Con: 'Building Stories,' 'Saga' top Eisners (winners list)". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved July 20, 2013. The comic was described in solicitations as " Star Wars meets A Game of Thrones", [1] evocative of both science fiction and fantasy epics such as The Lord of the Rings as well as classic works like Romeo and Juliet. [2] [3] [4] It is Vaughan's first creator-owned work to be published through Image Comics, and is the first time he employs narration in his comics writing. [5] Vaughan indicated that the entire series will span 108 issues. [6]My parents taught me never to get too attached to new people who came into my life, since attachment is the root of suffering. But the times I’ve suffered most were when I had no attachments so who knows, right?

Renuad, Jeffrey (May 31, 2017). "INTERVIEW: BKV Brings Saga Out West for ‘Fun-Filled’ Arc, The Coffin". CBR.com. a b Vaughan, Brian K.( w),Staples, Fiona( a)."Chapter Sixteen" Saga,no.16(November 2013).Image Comics. The world is complex and interesting, the interweaving story-lines are gripping, the characters are multi-dimensional, and the way it’s told is spectacular. Within all that are different sorts of lessons and commentaries that I found to be beautifully told and shared. It’s the type of story that demands your attention, and makes you immensely invested in the characters and what happens to them. In 2015 the series was again nominated for the same three Eisner Awards it won the previous year [87] and won two of them: Best Continuing Series and Best Penciller/Inker. [88] That same year the fourth volume was awarded the Goodreads Choice Award for Graphic Novels & Comics in 2015. [89] YearWhich is not to say that there isn't lots to like here. The central characters are extremely endearing, and the sheer imagination involved in creating these disparate peoples, worlds and adventures is magnificent. We have intergalactic bounty-hunters, a race of television-headed royals, subaquatic journalists, hatching eggs the size of planets, lupine abortion clinics, and a dozen other things less easy to describe. Sometimes these coexist uneasily with a more terrestrial, even parochial idea of what constitutes Big Issues (corporal punishment is bad, trans rights are important, etc.), but on the whole the ambition is impressive. I realized that making comics and making babies were kind of the same thing and if I could combine the two, it would be less boring if I set it in a crazy sci-fi fantasy universe and not just have anecdotes about diaper bags... I didn’t want to tell a Star Wars adventure with these noble heroes fighting an empire. These are people on the outskirts of the story who want out of this never-ending galactic war... I’m part of the generation that all we do is complain about the prequels and how they let us down... And if every one of us who complained about how the prequels didn’t live up to our expectations just would make our own sci-fi fantasy, then it would be a much better use of our time.
